Overview
Working with a range of clients, predominantly from the public sector, refurbishes and maintains social housing, local government, education, health, commercial and industrial properties.
Our business is truly customer-focused and we always aim to act in a committed, responsive and secure manner we care about our clients, but also our people and those who work with us to deliver an exceptional service.

Your role
The company vision is to be the leading building and maintenance provider in southern England. Bids are crucial to winning new work as well as retaining our existing contracts, and as a result, this role is vital to continued success and stability.

You will be working under the direction of the Business Development & Marketing Manager and have the support of the teams assistant in compiling these detailed, and often complex, bids.

Your role comprises three particular aspects:

1. To monitor, select and respond to those opportunities advertised on tender portals, through OJEU and other business opportunity sites.

The team assistant is responsible for trawling through all of the appropriate sites and notice advertisements for potential opportunities. These will be presented to you for selection. Once agreed, the team assistant will complete each Expression of Interest or Pre-Qualification Questionnaire to the best of their ability and pass this to you for review. Often this means pulling on technical resource, if required, to answer contract/project-specific questions, assessing which client references are best suited and providing guidance and feedback on the document as a whole. You will be responsible for ensuring that the content is accurate, portrays in the best way (without compromising on the brand qualities) and, most importantly, meets the clients needs.

2. To submit winning bids to existing and/or prospective clients on time and with the assistance of the Estimating Team, at the right price.

Where bids take the form of an Invitation to Tender, you will coordinate all day-to-day aspects of each bid with the assistance of the core team, including the BD&M Manager and estimators who produce the price element of the bid. As a result, you will need to have an excellent understanding of what the client needs by reading the documents in full and undertaking some desktop research. You will produce a bid programme, issue relevant meeting request invitations, involve any additional technical resource, e.g. M&E specialists if required, and assign tasks and responsibilities to the team.
Your key responsibility in this process is the quality submission you must be able to articulate how the company would meet the clients needs without compromising Operations or the Brand. This might entail collating ‘raw information from the bid team to create the response. You will also need to understand the business and the services we provide by developing close relationships with Operations.

3. To support the Business Development and Marketing Manager in identifying opportunities.

The nature of public sector procurement means that there are always peaks and troughs throughout the year. During quieter periods, you will provide support to the Business Development & Marketing Manager by monitoring let contracts within our target markets, and flagging up those are due for renewal/re-let so that relationships can be established prior to receipt of the tender documents. You may also be required to assist in other Business Development and Marketing activities, such as market research, marketing communications, following-up leads, etc.

Your role is predominantly office-based, with some external meetings and site visits. Generally, you will work standard hours; however submission deadlines may sometimes mean working over and above this.

Skills and ability:

A good leader and team player no one can produce a bid single-handedly

Assertive, yet tactful in motivating other members of the bid team to produce a successful submission

Able to read and interpret instructions carefully

Knowledge of the market/industry and commercial acumen

Able to manage time and work efficiently in order to meet deadlines

Self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision

Able to remain calm under pressure and prioritise

Have some knowledge of the industry in order to understand technical information

Able to manage multiple resources to deliver winning bids

Strong written communication skills

Preference:

Educated to degree level, preferably in construction, engineering or related discipline

Ideally trained as a building surveyor

3+ years in a similar role

Household Interviewer

The role is for a Household Interviewer Travel Planner in Basingstoke.
